The psychological definition of motivation:

Definition:

Motivation is defined as the process that initiates, guides, and maintains goal-oriented behaviors. Motivation is what causes us to act, whether it is getting a glass of water to reduce thirst or reading a book to gain knowledge.

It involves the biological, emotional, social, and cognitive forces that activate behavior. In everyday usage, the term motivation is frequently used to describe why a person does something.

What motivates me to be fit?

A few weeks ago I wrote a post Why I choose to be fit and healthy…. in reaction to an idiot co-worker who told me that I don’t need to workout because I am small already. I still don’t speak to her-she is not worth my energy….uuugh!

This post will be similar but I hope that does not bore folks.

Being over 40:

I love it when people are amazed that I am in my 40s.  When I am told, I look like a (less that 40 year old-lol!) or the reaction of ‘damn-you look good for being in your 40s or when some of the younger football players that I play with say ‘I hope to play as good as you when I get in my 40s’. The ego boost is off the scales!

My Parents:

My birth father is a fit and active 70 something year old. He walks and gardens every day. I think in another post I told you how when I went to visit him during Easter and was planning my long run (up to 7 miles), he said ‘oh just go down the street and take that to the pier and turn around that should be about 6 or 7 miles to and from’ (he walks this all the time he says).  Well the truth was it was 6.25 miles ONE WAY! He would have set me up had I not gotten in the car and measured it-lol!

Consequently, my mom and 2nd father have significant health issues that I strongly feel, if they were more active would not be battling so severely.

Having to work harder:

It is all true….after 35 your body starts to do things that you never knew it would do (not in a good way!) I used to be able to eat what every I wanted and still look good. The motivation to defeat the odds of age and work harder to attain my goals is motivation for me.

Being a mom:

I admit and have admitted to falling into the mommy trap ‘oh I have kids, I am a good mom and take care of them, I don’t have time to work out, eat healthy, take care of me….’ Moms-sound familiar? When the light came on that I can’t/won’t be able to be around to be a mom for my kids if I didn’t take care of myself, I went all in!!! The thought of being healthy and fit for my kids is motivation enough for me!

Being a hot wife:

Being sexy and hot for my husband is motivation! ‘Nuff said!

Being a motivator:

I am sure you have seen or heard this:

This is actually a mantra for me.  I am fit for me but if I can motivate one person by my actions, dedication and focus to be more fit, that is motivation to me.

You certainly don’t look 40! I actually usually forget that and think that we are the same age. You just happen to have older children. 🙂

You are certainly a hot wife! I like being someone that my husband can be proud of too.

Lots of great reasons to stay motivated! Seeing people who are in (or above) their 40’s who are still fit and active motivates me. I want to be them when I get there, and to do that I have to keep at it now!

I love this post so much! I LOVE that you’re motivated to be hot for your hubby (same here)! Just like you, I love to hear people say they hope to be as fit/fast as me when they’re my age. I’m well into my 50’s and love that I can still hang with the majority of my MRTT friends when we run. THAT motivates me to keep working out hard!

    Thanks for linking up!
