-the center of interest or activity.

-the state or quality of having or producing clear visual definition.

I am usually such a positive optimistic ‘everything will work its self out ‘ type of person but recently I am having a really hard time getting to that place and it is draining me, f-ing with my mood, mojo and over all well being and IT SUCKS!!!!

For me this week, I am  having to  choosing to FOCUS on the positive instead of the negative in many aspects of my life.  Where do I begin……

See the positive side, the potential, and make an effort. ~Dalai Lama

Financial:

As I have shared with you all before, I am 1 year into rejoining the work force after being unemployed for almost a year between 2013-2014.  In the year of unemployment, many of my bills and debts went unpaid due to having to prioritize spending.  Since beginning to work, I have been in contact with all of my creditors and have made arrangement to pay back and catch up to the best of my ability.

The negative thoughts that keep coming into my head:

-How did you let yourself get into so much unnecessary debt?

-How could you let this happen Tamieka!?!?!?

-I am going to be paying these people forever.

-You are counting every penny and living paycheck to paycheck-what kind of responsible adult are you?

The positive talk I am giving myself:

-Focus on your efforts Tamieka!

-All of the companies have been very responsive and supportive of you reaching out and making the efforts to pay your debts.

-You will be done sooner than you know it and once you are done, you will be debt free (outside of a home mortgage).

-You have learned a valuable lesson and will not put yourself in this situation ever again!

Fitness/Health

A few days ago, I shared how my motivation to workout has been at a -0 and I have yet to regain it or find it. I worked out yesterday (Tuesday) but slept in today (just didn’t feel like getting up).  I have been focusing on and felling really depressed about the news I got from my rheumatologist (long and short of it-my long distance running days are OVER!!!) and I have been focusing on my repeated injuries.

The negative thoughts that keep coming into my head:

-You are lazy

-You are a pathetic excuse of a fitmom

-WTF Tamieka-get –ish together

The positive talk I am giving myself:

Focus on your efforts Tamieka!

-Your body is trying to tell you something Tamieka-are you listening?

-Your injuries are just a small set back

-Let’s refocus and consider what you can do

-Talk to your fitfamily about other options (biking, swimming, etc)

Personal

I am having a really hard time organizing myself and my family.  Walking into my house everyday gives me an instant headache and puts me in a bad mood.  The clutter and junk is overwhelming and daunting.  I need to set a better example for my kids and I don’t know where to start.  I try to implement things but have a hard time maintaining it and therefore it feels like another failure.

The negative thoughts that keep coming into my head:

-I bet other families and moms have their houses in order and not looking like this crap!

-What kind of example are you setting for your kids?

-You have to do better!

The positive talk I am giving myself:

-Focus on your efforts Tamieka!

-Take small steps and the change will come.

-Write your plan down and put it in action.

-Rally the family to get support and consistency.

Here is what I know:

Negative thoughts drain you of energy and keep you from being in the present moment. The more you give in to your negative thoughts, the stronger they become……..Thank you Tinybuddha for this reminder!

So I vow to FOCUS on the positive and the possibilities!!

What a great post using the word focus. I LOVE how you turned it into focusing on one thing (being positive), and didn’t just talk about focusing in general. I also enjoyed how you took situations, and suggested how you could turn it into a positive. Nicely done!

    Thanks for linking up!

What a great post and I can sooooo relate to this post Tamieka! Most of us are just one paycheck away from total disaster! Me included. You have taken probably the most important step and that is knowing something had to change in your finances, your personal life and in your fitness! You may even take a few steps backwards along the way but your going to make it past this point in your life and come out better on the other side because you now know what to focus on. Keep your head up girly, we are all here to support you! 🙂

Ugh. I’m sorry you’re struggling so much. I hope you continue to focus on the positive talk and not beat yourself up. It sounds like many of these issues will need you to just take one step at a time and not get overwhelmed. Easier said than done, I know, but baby steps can get you to your goals too.

Girl…. you are an amazing mom and blogger. Don’t let that voice of self doubt cloud what you know to be true. If it makes you feel better, my house is a mess, my routine has been struggling and until we adopted many of the teachings of Dave Ramsey, we struggled with debt. We still do! Breathe deep, say a prayer of thanks and give yourself grace!

I applaud you focusing on the positive. So sorry to hear that long distance running is not an option for you. It sounds like you are keeping an eye open for the window that will appear as that door closes. Hang in there and keep up the positive attitude.

I am so sorry you had such bad news. I actually do enjoy many other types of exercise — I should, I’ve been doing it for decades without every lacing up running shoes — but I understand, there’s really something about running that just gets under your skin. Can you still run shorter distances?

As far as having my home together . . . I don’t work, I don’t have kids (just the furkids & the big kid husband) and my kitchen looks like a bomb went off in it. You are not alone!
