I work for one of the county governments in Maryland. At the beginning of the summer, they committed to encouraging and supporting all of it’s employees to Live Well and be healthy. It started out with them sharing healthy recipes and activities through email, establishing a Wellness Champion program (I am a Wellness Champion!), establishing on-sites workouts, discounts at health clubs and practices and setting up health checks-ups and advice.
In September, they upped their game big time……and launched the Virgin Pulse program. With Virgin Pulse, you get:
-An opportunity to earn points for healthy behaviors and up to $350 a year (WHAT?? Free money?)
-FREE Wearable fitness device, the ‘Max’
-Tools to encourage you to make well-being a priority.
Yup- I was surely intrigued. When the teasers came out, I went to the Virgin Pulse website the see what they were talking about and to get some insight before out launch meeting.
Here is what they talked about on the website: This is written and geared towards HR departments but is layperson friendly and hit home (at least for me):
MODERN LIFE IS DEPLETING US.
Too many demands, too little time.
HELP EMPLOYEES BUILD BETTER HABITS
We’re tired, overwhelmed, disengaged. We’re eating poorly, sitting more, sleeping less…and letting devices distract us from what really matters. We’re not working or living as well as we could be…
But a few small steps can change all that.
WE KNOW WHAT WORKS.
To change the problem, you have to change the habit. Better habits replenish people, and we know how to do it. We’ve been driving daily behavior change for years, and we do it in the workplace where habits spread like wildfire, then extend beyond the workplace.
Our consumer-focused Virgin experience has driven hundreds of billions of habit-building interactions with our products. We drive more of the right kinds of habits, for more employees, than anyone else. And how do we know they’re the right habits? The science says so (and our clients do, too.). There’s mountains of evidence that links daily lifestyle habits with long-term health and productivity
OUR TECHNOLOGY CULTIVATES HABITS THAT MATTER.
We’ve designed a simple technology platform that builds good lifestyle habits through personalization, tracking, positive feedback, education, rewards, and a hefty dose of fun. And it’s configurable for your culture, which is critical to success.
Members love it. They come back day after day, which is key to creating good habits. It’s personalized, it’s easy to use, it’s with them on the go, and they’re using it to create meaningful connections with colleagues.
RESULTS ARE SUSTAINABLE & SATISFYING.
With small, daily wins come big, lasting results – for employees and for companies. Employees have more energy, they’re more focused, and they’re more driven to do the things that matter most. They love coming to work every day, and have energy left when the work day’s over.
Clients are seeing healthier, more productive workforces. They’re creating great places to work, where employees feel respected and valued. And because employees are highly engaged in Virgin Pulse, they’re seeing greater utilization of their other HR programs, too.
The reality of today is that there’s a lot to do and little time to do it. While trying to manage everything, employees are forming negative habits that affect all aspects of their lives. With habits making up 40 percent of our day-to-day activities, supporting employees in forming healthier ones is key. And the workplace is the best place to start doing so. Get this paper for the nine habits that really matter when it comes to employee well-being.
Virgin Pulse is an online daily-use software platform that fosters habits and changes behavior, which helps employees thrive personally, at work, and across all aspects of life.
Well that surely had me even more interested for sure!!!
Since September 3rd, I have been wearing my Virgin Pulse Max every minute of everyday! I have had experience with fitness trackers in the past, I had 2 fitbits and lost them both 😦 and I loved them too. Seeing my activity or lack there of surely gets me up and moving to get those steps in. For the past 13 days I have blasted my step goal!
I am excited about the Virgin Pulse program and super excited to helping the employees of the county to Live Well.
This is not an endorsement or sponsored post of the Virgin Pulse program-all opinions are mine only and I am just sharing my excitement in the program!
