Laura’s 21 Day Reset officially ended yesterday. Congrats to those who participated. I would love to hear what you learned from the reset.
I started the reset 2 weeks late, so this past week was week 1 for me.
Week 1 in Review:
Workouts:
I got 4 workouts in. I did not get any runs in though :(.
and that is where the workout ends. Later in the week, my daughter and I would get sick and be totally wiped out!
Meals:
Using the Racing Weight Cooking Book, I created a great week of meals.
Snacks:
-nut butter and banana toast;
– Hard boiled eggs and toast;
-Chocolate/Banana/Peanut Butter Shake;
Meals:
-5 minute burrito;
-Bean, corn, cheese quesadilla;
-tomato, beef, florentine soup;
-chipotle chicken avocado wrap;
– rosemary (I changed this to ginger)garlic chicken
-turkey & pepper over rotini;
-beef & butternut squash hash;
-steak with charred corn salsa
The recipes were super easy to makes and super yummy! I made enough to last me the week and I ate the last meal last night for dinner…PERFECT!
Things I noticed:
-Being trapped in the house during a blizzard makes it really hard to stick to the eating plan set. Even though I had delicious food prepped and ready to go, the lure of snacks in the house were too hard to resist. I didn’t do too badly but snacked a bit more that I wanted;
-Even though I had no where to go (thanks Blizzard of 2016), I should have gone to bed and gotten up at my regular time. My workouts were really hard because I was working out much later in the day and while the kids were up and demanding my attention;
-I need to be more mindful of the timing of my eating. I am shooting for eating every 3 hours as well as listening to my hunger cues;
-I need to be less distracted while eating. I need to focus on eating. I noticed that I start eating a meal and it takes me almost an hour because I try to multi task and I am not focusing my attention on eating;
-I need more protein with my meals. I was finding I was getting hungry too quickly between meals. This week, I will add a few more oz of meat to my meals;
-Following a recipes to create meals really isn’t that bad. I have always stayed away from recipes, feeling like I just wouldn’t be able to stick to them and the food taste good;
-I had forgotten the many ways to get healthy carbs in my meals. Sweet potatoes are god but they sure can get boring very quickly
I am looking forward to some more good meals this week, continued change up in my workouts and getting out for a run. This is #selfcare

You’re off to a great start with the 21 day challenge. I would have a hard time resisting snacking if I was stuck indoors. Nice job on your workouts. I get off schedule during long breaks from school. It makes it harder to get out the door the later in the day I wait.

I too find it hard to keep up with healthy eating and exercise when I’m out of my routine. glad you survived the blizzard!

Very interesting points you observed during the time you was stuck inside. I too find that if I get off my normal routine, it just knocks everything else off. I really do better getting up early, I feel better and I get more done. I hope you saw my post on mindfulness, I too am the worlds worse at eating and trying to read or look at something and before I know it I’ve ate everything on my plate. I may have food in my belly but there is a direct connection to enjoying what you eat and the sense of feeling full. I’m still working on things to change to be more mindful. I’m glad you are noticing things too. It will be fun to come back in another few weeks and see where we both are!

I’m sorry to hear you and your daughter have been sick! I find I feel better when I eat every 3 hours, give or take. But I’m the opposite of you when it comes to how long it takes me to eat. I usually inhale a meal in less than 5 minutes. Not good. That cookbook looks like it has some really good recipes! It’s good to know you found them to be easy. Thanks for linking with us Tamieka. Thanks. I don’t know Wenger we got strep from…we were home 10 days together with no other human contact. Just weird!
I usually wolf down food too is I am not distracted.

I think the reset was good for people who haven’t really focused that much on diet or strength training. We actually didn’t enjoy a couple of the recipes we tried and some instructions were missing and/or not complete.
For the right person I think it would be great. For me, I have to admit it wasn’t worth it, even though it’s reasonably priced. Maybe I’d feel differently if I’d been able to attend the call. So not having a transcript or recording from it helped shape my views of the entire reset, I think (that and not liking the recipes).
I am a big recipe follower! Which doesn’t mean I necessarily follow them to a T, either.

Thanks for the feedback on the reset. I thought the same thing. I think it would be good for people who were just transitioning into a healthier lifestyle or looking for support in the beginning. I never got on the FB group page (technical difficulties) so missed that component and never got any recipes (where were those?) Anyhoo…I agree with you. The call was ok too nothing special. She definitely should have had availability for those who missed it to hear a replay.
I can see how recipes can help with the boredom I have been having with my meals.

Actually, the FB group was pretty good, although I doubt I made any lasting friendships.
There were several PDFs sent as attachments: a recipe book, a workout schedule, meal plan, and some general info.
I really like variety in my meals and my body seems to like mixing it up, too!

I love sweet potatoes and there are so many great recipes out there. I don’t do much pasta / bread so I find the sweet potato a great replacement. Hope your week is a bit more “normal” ! Definitely much easier for me to eat regular meals when I am on a schedule.

I love sweet potatoes too…I need to look at some recipes to change it up a bit. they really are a good carb staple!

Congrats on one week! Cookbook meals and new snacks are always tough but you know your hurdles so that is half the battle! Good luck with week 2, you got this!

I am really enjoying using the cookbook…I think this will really help me get out of the boredom with my meals and have me looking forward to my meals more 🙂

Thanks! I guess as I read it…4 workouts is pretty good-huh? I am use to 6 so 4 seems like a slacker week but I need to give my self credit for what I did get done (I need to be better at that)

Way to jump on in with week one! It looks like a great challenge! The recipes look awesome! I stayed away from recipes for a long time due to my allergies. It was just too much…now I embrace the challenge and even have fun creating my own recipes!
I really admire everyone who had to deal with the blizzard. I do NOT miss that kind of weather. I was cringing at all the pics I saw. I will take my 70 degree days at the end of January please!
Keep focused and I know you will crush week 2 and 3 of the challenge!!

Sounds like a great start 4 workouts is good! Some yummy food choices also. Great observations also, it’s so important for us to see where we are in order to get where we want to be.

When I participate in different challenges like this, I do the same as you after and realize all the little things that I could fix to be better with my health habits.
They are a great eye opener in that sense!
