WW-Tri-ing not to get lost

Happy Wednesday All.

How is your week going?  I am recovering from my feelings about my inconsistencies and getting my mind ready for a fun girls trip to Costa Rica and the beginning of my Triathlon training.

As I have been preparing to start my triathlon training, I have been tri-ing really hard not to get caught up and lost in all the fancy smancy triathlon hype.  It is sooooo easy to get lost in it..let me tell you!

I took advice from a few people to joined a few triathlon focused FB groups….

ok for most reasons it has been a GREAT idea but for others, like getting lost in the hype…not so much!

If you don’t know, there are people who are able to  and do spend large amounts of money on being a triathlete. We are talking the cost of small cars, mortgages, college tuition and I wish I was exaggerating!!  Not being one of those people, I have had such sticker shock when I see the cost of races, gear, bikes, etc.  that people spend on being a triathlete.  The sticker shock was is REAL!!!

I have been tri-ing really hard not to get lost and caught up in the hype.  I have not lost my scruples and will not lose them to be successful as a triathlete.  My frugal, penny pincher self is not going to lose track of my financial fitness goals for this sport…..NO MA’AM!!

I will be a triathlete on a budget!

So far I have the basics of what I need to get started with my training and have yet too lose too many Benjamins ($$) in the process.  I will continue to buy items on sale and not lose any pride taking hand me downs and borrowing from friends as well.  So far, I have borrowed a bike and been given a wet suit….please and thank you!!

Standing my ground and not getting lost in the hype!!

Deb’s  Wednesday’s Word today is LOST!

What a great take on this week’s Wednesday Word! I love that you say that you “will be a triathlete on a budget” and that you’re going to stand your “ground and not get lost in the hype!” Good luck in your new sport, and happy training!

    Thanks for linking up!

You CAN be a Triathlete on a budget Tamieka! Trust me, you will see a huge range of bikes, gear and clothing in your race! Thankfully, I didn’t have time to get lost in the hype before my Tri. I invested in a pair of tri shorts (only $19 ’cause I had a gift certificate) — but honestly my regular bike shorts would have worked fine — and $9 goggles. That’s it. I didn’t fall apart. LOL. You’ll do great and enjoy every moment of it! Have fun in Costa Rica!

    Sorry I haven’t joined in the TT yet . . . I’ll get there!

It’s so easy to get lost in the hype of anything, but especially for your first “tri”, it doesn’t make sense to. Good for you for sticking to your principles!

I did computrainer a few years back with some Ironman triathlete folks–I was on my mom bike at the time and they were riding bikes that cost as much as a car. I was stunned. When I bought my rode bike, I paid $600 for the previous years’ model and my husband had a meltdown. I told him that my bike was an “entry level” bike and he didn’t believe me. He has no idea.

Sorry for the delayed response ;(. Yes!! I was looking at an entry level..thinking I could get one for like $300….yeah not so much! SOOOO thankful that I was able to borrow a friends road bike for now.

Yes! You absolutely have to try not to LOSE your head when it comes to getting into a new sport.
When I was getting into biking, I had that concern. There is so much stuff to buy and you’re excited and kinda want to get everything but it’s not necessary. Start with the basics and add as you need to. It was hard but totally worth it.
Speaking of which, I should go for a bike ride soon. I haven’t yet this year. What am I waiting for? Have I LOST my mojo?

You will see such a range of gear at your tri. I marvel at the high-tech tri bikes that whizz past me. And then there are people on cruisers with baskets. Good for you for not being intimidated by all the fancy tri gear out there.

Thanks…..I have figured out that it is not necessary to spend alot but holy moly…when I see what people do spend I am shocked!! I think tris are like races…you figure out what you need and make it work. That is my plan at least.
